Analysis Of Sunset At Montmajour By Vincent Van Gogh

As a melting pot of the world, the artists are designed different style of artworks. While artist were thinking about something or really want to give some message to the world without saying something, they inspired to paint and provide a wide artwork. Different artist have different thoughts, but here I chose the image, titled as â€Å"Sunset at Montmajour† by the artist Vincent Van Gogh. Which was the first painting of a full-sized, landscape canvas paper with oils paints, and was painted on July 4th 1888. The size of the painting is (73.3 cm Ãâ€" 93.3 cm) or (28.9 in Ãâ€" 36.7 in). The painting was displayed as a part of an exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam from 24 September 2013 until 12 January 2014, and it is still located in†¦show more content†¦There are lots of oak trees which give direction towards building of the hill. The distance between oak tree and the Montmajour Abbey representing the naturalistic of the painting. There are many principles of design in this painting like balance, pattern, movement, time, value, and proportion in this piece. The area occupied on front for oak tree and the background Montmajour building represents the proportion of the design. The short,curved and wide line of the leaves and clouds in the sky describes the pattern and value of the lines. The distance between oak tree and Montmajour building represents an asymmetrical balance because at some area trees are lying towards building but other side trees are lying the opposite way. The sunset represents the evening time. The way that Van Gogh used the title â€Å" Sunset at Montmajour† really a great evidence for the subject matter. Colors in the painting really attract the viewers and artists message is that the brushwork is giving back the turbulence of the clouds and the trees. While Vincent van Gogh was at Arles city, France, he inspired to paint this picture, he wrote a letter to his brother and describ ed everything he would like to share with others. â€Å"Yesterday, at sunset, I was on a stony heath where very small, twisted oaks grow, in the background a ruin on the hill, and wheatfields in the valley.
